DOE releases list of recognized EVs in the country
The Department of Energy has issued a list, identifying the recognized electric vehicles (EV) in the Philippines.

The category that ended up with the longest list is the BEV category.According to the released list, the roster of EVs sold in the country are divided into four segments: plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV), hybrid electric vehicles (HEV), battery-electric vehicles (BEV), and light electric vehicles.
The PHEV segment is then sub-divided into three parts. The first of which is for cars weighing below 2,500 kilograms (kg). Here, the recognized cars are the DFSK E5, Chery Tiggo 8 Pro e+, and the Mitsubishi Outlander.
Next up is the 2,500 to 3,000kg category, which lists models namely the BYD Tang Dual Hybrid Mode, Jaguar F-Pace P400e, Volvo S90 T8 all-wheel drive (AWD), and the Volvo XC60 T8 AWD.
As for PHEVs that weigh above 3,000kg, DOE’s updated list included the BMW XM, Land Rover Range Rover P400e, and Volvo XC90 T8 AWD.
For DOE’s updated HEV list, it noted that the cars included in its below 2,000kg roster are the GWM Haval H6 HEV and Jolion HEV, Honda CR-V e:HEV, Nissan Kicks e-Power, Toyota Corolla Altis HEV, and Toyota Corolla Cross.
Meanwhile, the updated list for HEVs within the 2,000 to 3,000kg category are the Lexus UX250h, ES300h, and NX350h; Mazda CX-60 AWD HEV Turbo and its D-Sport counterpart; Toyota Camry, RAV4, Yaris Cross, and Innova Zenix.
Moreover, the country’s energy bureau shared that the Lexus RX350h, LS500h, RX500h; Mazda CX-90 AWD HEV Turbo and its Turbo Exclusive variant; and the Toyota Alphard were the cars that made the above 3,000kg category for HEVs.
Arguably the longest of the lists are those from the BEV segment.
Those that belong to the updated list for BEVs weighing under 2,000kg were the Baojun Yep; Bestune NAT EO5; BYD Seagull, Yuanpro, and Dolphin; Changan Eado 460; DFSK Mini EV; Helmarv Mini EV and EV 400; Jetour Ice Cream; Renault Twizy; Tesla Model 3 and Y; as well as the Wuling Bingo, Macaron Mini EV, and Gameboy.
On the other hand, the BYD Atto3 and Han; Dongfeng EC36; Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6; Kia EV6; Leapmotor C11; Lexus RZ450e BEV; Mercedes-Benz EQA 250 and EQB 250; Morris Garages ZS EV, MG4, and Marvel R; Nissan Leaf; Smart Automobile; Smart #1 Brabus; Toyota BZ4X; Volkswagen ID.3 and ID.4; as well as the Volvo C40 AWD Recharge Twin and XC40 AWD Recharge Twin were models that made the cut into the 2,001 to 2,650kg category of the updated list.
Recognized BEVs that had an overall weight that exceeded the aforementioned category were the Audi e-Tron, Q8 e-Tron 50 Advance quattro, Q8 e-Tron 55 Sportback Advance S Line, Q8 e-Tron 55 quattro; BMW iX3 M Sport, iX xDrive 40, and i7 xDrive 60; BYD Tang; Dongfeng Rich 6; Geely Radar; Jaguar i-Pace; Kia EV9; Leapmotor C01; Mercedes-Benz EQE 300 and EQE 350+; Porsche Taycan 4S; Volkswagen ID6; and the Weltmeister W5.
In addition, the DOE also revealed its updated list for recognized electric bikes, electric motorcycles, electric tricycles, as well as electric fleet automobiles, electric commercial vehicles, and electric public utility transport vehicles.
