DPWH Completes PHP50-Million Slope Protection Project in Samar
The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) recently announced the completion of a PHP50-million slope protection project along a section of the Calbayog-Catarman Road in Calbayog City, Samar.
According to a report from the Region 8 office of the DPWH, the project--which covers a 7,800-square meter embankment--is designed to protect a 293-meter road section of the national highway in Barangay Jose Roño of Calbayog-Catarman Road from landslide.
The slope protection, which is made of solid concrete, is designed to prevent soil erosion that puts at risk the lives and properties on the Calbayog hillside. Many motorists welcomed the project and consider it a huge help, because Catarman Road accommodates a large volume of daily motoring public.
Aside from the slope protection itself, concrete barriers were also built on the road edges for the protection of vehicles along sharply curved sections of the road.
"The slope protection structure projects provide motorists, both locals and tourists, a safer travel experience as they explore different places in Samar Province as well as other areas of Eastern Visayas Region," the DPWH said in its statement.
