DPWH finishes coastal road in Sipalay, Negros Occidental

The project was completed last March.The government agency said that the newly paved road — completed last March — is expected to bolster tourism and economic activities in the area by providing better access to various scenic spots as well as agriculture, and marine development portions of the province.
Further, the department noted that agriculture development in the area will likewise be improved because of the reduced travel time and delivery cost of transporting agricultural and marine products to the market.
According to the DPWH Negros Occidental Third District Engineering Office, the road project started in 2020. The first two kilometer had a P40-million budget while the remaining 1.5 kilometers was completed costs P30 million.
In a statement, DPWH Region 6 Director Nerie Bueno shared that the project involves upgrading of the coastal road from gravel to concrete with construction of slope protection, installation of metal guard rails, and provision of post and hazard markers and reflectorized thermoplastic pavement markings.
“With this upgraded coastal tourism road, various beaches in the area may be converted into tourism sites that will eventually provide job opportunities among locals,” Bueno was quoted as saying.
