DPWH to complete BGC-Ortigas Link Road in Q4
After opening the 440-meter new Sta. Monica-Lawton Bridge last Saturday, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) said that it is now in the final stages of fully completing the Bonifacio Global City (BGC)-Ortigas Center Link Road Project.
Opened in time for the 123rd Philippine Independence Day celebration, the aforementioned link (dubbed as Kalayaan Bridge) connects Pasig City with Makati City. The partial opening of the Sta. Monica-Lawton Bridge was initially eyed in May.
Following the said development, DPWH Secretary Mark Villar said that the next goal is to complete the 1.367 kilometer-viaduct in its entirety towards the last quarter this year.
According to him, around 20 percent of the traffic volume of EDSA and C-5 Road can be accommodated in the fully completed BGC-Ortigas Center Link Road Project.
Villar also said that the Kalayaan Bridge is set to provide better traffic flow to get through BGC and Ortigas business districts.
In his report, Undersecretary for Unified Project Management Office (UPMO) Operations Emil Sadain said that the construction of 565-meter Lawton Avenue-Global City Viaduct Project has already reached the Kalayaan Avenue intersection.
Sadain said that finishing activities for the Kalayaan Bridge and the up and down ramps to Kalayaan Avenue, construction of the viaduct structure from Lawton Avenue, Makati City are being done simultaneously, which will be connected to the entrance of Bonifacio Global City’s 8th Avenue.
As it is about to reach the BGC side, the department said that the DPWH-UPMO is continuously coordinating with partner stakeholders to ensure to finish the roadway and be opened by last quarter.
