Electric vehicle (EV) owners who use alternating current (AC) systems in charging stations are experiencing a slight increase in the cost of refilling their car’s batteries.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • Which government agency announced the increased costs of using AC chargers in charging stations?

The Department of Energy announced the increased costs of using AC chargers in charging stations.
  • By how much did the cost of using AC chargers in charging stations increase?

Per the agency, the cost increased by P0.39.
  • Per the National Electric Vehicle Charging Stations (EVCS) Charging Fees for the month of August issued by the Department of Energy (DOE), the price of using AC chargers in charging points jumped by P0.39.

Affected are electric cars that use Type 1, Type 2, and GB/T AC standards. The hike brings the cost of charging to P11.51 per kilowatt-hour (kWh).

However, EVs that use direct current (DC) charging will not suffer any price increase. Electric cars with Combined Charging System (CCS) Combo 1, CCS Combo 2, GB/T DC, and CHAdeMO standards will still pay P31.48 per kWh.

Further, battery storage system charging costs stay at P53.46 per kWh.

The updated pricing will be applied to the 623 charging points available to EV owners here in the Philippines.

“Navigating through the costs of charging electric vehicles just got easier. Find out how much it costs to charge your electric vehicle and where you can charge for free,” DOE wrote in a press statement.

“You can check the Department of Energy’s unbundled charging fee structure to know the breakdown of the charges as mandated by the EVIDA-Implementing Rules and Regulations,” it added.

For those interested in knowing what fees are included in the cost of EV charging, DOE included a breakdown of the charges in the EVCS table, which are electricity fees, service fees, maintenance fees, administrative fees, and taxes.
