EVAP lauds PMFTC's move toward carbon neutrality
The Electric Vehicle Association of the Philippines (EVAP) has thrown its support to the local affiliate of tobacco firm Philip Morris International (PMI) after the latter started using electric vehicles (EV) for its Marikina Sales Office.

The company's goal is to reach its carbon-neutral status by 2025.In a statement, the group lauded the PMFTC’s “Smoke-Free Future” initiative, saying that the company is taking significant steps toward carbon neutrality by 2025 while also aiming to maintain profitability.
“The move towards electric vehicles is an excellent step towards creating a cleaner and more sustainable environment, which is critical for the long-term growth and sustainability of the Philippines,” EVAP President Edmund Araga was quoted as saying.
“Moreover, the shift towards electric vehicles will bring significant benefits to PMFTC, including cost savings on fuel and maintenance, as well as improved efficiency and reduced downtime. This move sets an example for other companies to follow, as it demonstrates that it is possible to achieve profitability while contributing to a cleaner and healthier environment,” he noted.
For his part, EVAP Chairman Rommel Juan is encouraging more companies to follow suit. “We enjoin other companies to follow PMFTC’s initiative and also change their vehicle fleet into EVs,” he said.
“We invite the public to be part of our annual event, the EV Summit 2023! The show will showcase not only electric vehicles but also the newest EV programs and chargers in the country," the Association chair added.
