The “evolved” version of the hydrogen-powered Toyota GR86 has won the recently held fourth round of the 2023 Super Taikyu Series at the Autopolis international racing course in Oita Prefecture, Japan.
Its evolution, according to Toyota, was done through the use of a newly improved carbon-neutral fuel.
According to the carmaker, the use of traditional carbon-neutral fuel diluted the engine oil, preventing the engine oil from performing as it should.
Together with Subaru Corporation (which also uses carbon-neutral fuel in its races) and fuel manufacturers, Toyota stated that it adjusted the composition of the fuel to make it easier to vaporize and burn.
As a result, the new formula reduced engine oil dilution as well as improved reliability and exhaust performance by reducing the burden on the engine.
After the dust settled in Autopolis, the hydrogen-powered Toyota GR86 CNF Concept emerged on top.
