One would be spoiled for choice in the SUV market. Many take the form of various shapes, sizes, capabilities, and creature comforts.
One contender in the crowded SUV segment is the Nissan X-Trail. To make it stand out from the rest, Nissan has fitted its compact SUV an array of safety tech with Nissan Intelligent Mobility (NIM). To push the X-Trail's appeal further, it was also given a third row of seats that consumers so desire.
The X-Trail has four-wheel drive, too, to help it become an alternative to bigger SUVs. That 4WD is included in the top-spec X-Trail, while the entry-level variety has front rollers only. At P1.534 to P1.82 million for the respective variants, this capable and capacious SUV rivals its peers, and a used SUV that has slipped under the radar of many.
Like the X-Trail, the CR-V is a long-running nameplate. This fourth generation retained its standout features, while it was given styling and equipment updates last year.
The CR-V holds some distinction in the market for packing a third row, as well as a 1.6-liter DOHC i-DTEC turbo diesel engine. Paired to a nine-speed automatic transmission, its mill makes 118hp and 300Nm of torque.
Five generations on, the Forester still aims to put driving pleasure above everything else.
The Forester's two-liter four-cylinder Boxer engine, which generates 156hp and 196Nm of torque, contributes to the driving prowess. With cylinders laid horizontally, the Boxer mill keeps the center of gravity low and the handling balanced. The power and torque are sent to all four wheels all the time.
It may look European, but the Sportage comes from the land that gave the world Crash Landing On You and Blackpink.
The Sportage's looks and badge set it apart from the Japanese SUVs like X-Trail, but so does its two-liter diesel engine. The mill makes 182hp and a healthy 400Nm of torque, so fuel economy of above 10kpl is within reach.
It seems the Chinese carmaker wants to be known for its stylish and tech-filled SUVs, and so it's making its mark with the Azkarra.
The Azkarra's hybrid powertrain is among its tech highlights. The top-spec Luxury variant boasts a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine and a 48V electric motor pairing, to make 300Nm of torque and maximum fuel efficiency.
Known to be a reliable transport through the most inhospitable environments, like forests and warzones, the Patrol Super Safari has real SUV kudos. Used examples of this capable truck can be considered over the cosseting X-Trail.
The Patrol's body-on-frame chassis carries an off-road capable suspension setup and four-wheel drive. In the belly of the beast sits a three-liter turbodiesel engine capable of 150hp and 343Nm, mated to a four-speed automatic transmission. An upscale seven-seater cabin sweetens the deal.
