Motorcycles are a popular means of transportation for many Filipinos, especially in the past few years. Not only did motorcycles provide a safe bubble for motorists in the country at the height of the pandemic but they also gave Filipinos a viable means of mobility when pump prices were skyrocketing.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • What's the minimum engine displacement for motorcycles to enter Philippine expressways.

Motorcycles that are registered with a 400cc displacement or greater are deemed expressway-legal.
  • What are some of the motorcycle brands that offer 400cc bikes here in the Philippines?

Motorcycle brands with viable 400cc options in their lineup include Kawasaki, KTM, Bristol, SYM, and Suzuki.
  • That said, the local motorcycle landscape continued to grow, especially the segment that allowed people more freedom to take on the open road. Today, we’re going to look at some of the expressway-legal bikes you can buy here in the Philippines.

    KTM Duke 390

Another popular freeway-legal option in the Philippines is the KTM Duke 390. The naked bike packs a 373.2cc engine that is mated to a six-speed transmission and makes about 44hp with around 37Nm of torque.

Notable features found on the 2022 Duke 390 include its lightweight steel trellis frame, two-channel Bosch ABS, and high-tech Bybrebraking system.

Other expressway-legal bikes from KTM include the RC 390 in the supersport category.

    Bristol BR 400i

Those with an eye for classic bikes would find their ideal 400cc ride in the Bristol BR 400i.

This motorcycle offers a mix of cafe racer styling with modern amenities. That said, riders would have to take on a lower riding position because of the Briston 400i’s recessed handlebars.

The Bristol 400i is fitted with a 400cc engine mated to a five-speed tranny. The powertrain is best for cruising, and makes about 27 horses with 33Nm of torque.

Apart from its retro look, the 400i offers attractive features such as double front disc brakes with ABS, a mix of digital and analog classic instrument panels, and two full stainless steel exhaust pipes.

Riders who want a more comfortable and convenient cruising experience can check out Bristol’s Maxie 400 maxi scoot.

    Speaking of which…

    Expressway-legal maxi scoots

The local motorcycle industry offers several expressway-legal scooters that are perfect for plying the busy urban streets or for touring the less-tense provincial roads.
