Estafano Rivero and Inigo Anton, whose surnames have been around the Philippine motorsport scene for quite some time already, as well as celebrity Troy Montero, were among the the regular podium finishers at the concluding leg of the 2021 Toyota Gazoo Racing Vios Cup.
Jiro Garbes and Jacob Ang were also among those who constantly made podium finishes during the culminating leg last Saturday.
The three Circuit Championship race classes (Super Sporting, Sporting, and Promotional) had six, seven and 17 participants, respectively. The last two races in the final leg adopted a double points ruling.
In the Promotional Class, Garbes was constantly on the podium at the end of the three races last Saturday, getting first, second, and third positions successively. On the other hand, Montero (who represented the Toyota Gazoo Racing PH), finished third in Races 7 and 8 while securing the top step on Race 9.
Jason Lao joined the two on the podium in the first two races that day but Alain Alzona pulled a surprise and got a second-place finish in the last race.
In the Sporting Class, Ang finished first in Races 7 and 8, but dropped two places in the final race. Anton, son of Filipino racing legend Carlos Anton, finished second in the first race, fell to third place in the second race, but regained the second-place finish to cap the series.
Darrel Garbes was with the two in first race, but Joacquin Garrido snatched his podium place from him, finishing second and first place in the succeeding races.
Lastly, Rivero — brother of multi-time Driver of The Year awardee Milo Rivera — was the only constant fixture on top of the podium for the Super Sporting class with second-place finishes in the first two races before securing the Race 9 victory.
He was joined by Pauland Dumlao (Race 7 and 8 winner), Red Diwa (third placer for the first two races) and Gerard Loy and Bryan Co (second and third placers in Race 9).
For his part, Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) President Atsuhiro Okamoto expressed gratitude to all the participants.
“We have championed over many obstacles to bring the TGR Vios Cup back. And we couldn’t have done this without all of you. On behalf of Toyota Motor Philippines and all our partners, I would like to thank you for your continued support and participation this season,” he said during the opening ceremonies for the final leg.
In the Autocross Challenge, Jules Aquino claimed the championship title in the Celebrities and Influencers class, with Arron Villaflor and Lexi Mendiola following as second and third placers, respectively. Jose Altoveros dominated the races for the media class, followed by Enzo Delos Reyes and Paolo De Borja as the second and third placers, respectively.
