Ferrari has debuted
two drop-top supercars in one day: the
V12-powered Ferrari 812 GTS and the
Ferrari F8 Spider V8.
The 812 GTS is the spider version of the
812 Superfast and is the
first front-mounted V12 production spider to be offered by Ferrari
in 50 years, the last one being the 1969 365 GTS4, otherwise known as the Daytona Spider.
Equipped with a
retractable hard top that
opens in 14 seconds at speeds of
up to 45 kph, the 812 GTS retains the design and proportions of the 812 Superfast without altering either its exterior dimensions or interior space and comfort, representing
"the perfect marriage of sportiness and elegance." The
electric rear screen, which acts as a wind-stop, makes the car truly useable with the top down while, with the top up, it can be left open to allow occupants to continue to enjoy the naturally-aspirated V12’s soundtrack.
To fit the retractable hard top, the
Ferrari Styling Center redesigned the entire rear of the car--roof, tonneau cover, and luggage compartment--with
two buttresses on the said tonneau cover highlighting the rear, beneath which the roof movement mechanism is stowed.
Since it's based on the 812 Superfast, the 812 GTS uses the
same 6.5-liter F140 V12 engine that produces
789 hp and 718 Nm of torque through a
seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.

And then there's the F8 Spider, which is the open-top version of the
F8 Tributo.
Like the 812 GTS, the F8 Spider has a retractable hard top, and while it's not as extreme as the 488 Pista Spider, Ferrari says its sportier than the 488 Spider which it replaces. It's also supposedly
20 kg lighter than its predecessor and weighs just 20 kg more than the more extreme 488 Pista Spider.
The F8 Spider uses the same
mid-mounted 3.9-liter F158 V8 engine as the F8 Tributo--the same engine which has the International Engine & Powertrain of the Year award
for the fourth straight year this year--which puts out
710 hp and 770 Nm of torque with a
power output of 182 hp/L through a
seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.
The F8 Spider utilized different weight-saving measures from other Ferraris to keep its weight down. The engine, for example, inherits weight-reduction solutions from the 488 Pista like its
titanium connecting rods, crankshaft, and flywheel which to cut the power unit's weight by
18 kgs compared to that of the 488 Spider. Its
inconel exhaust manifolds, meanwhile, are derived from the 488 Challenge and contribute
9.7 kgs to the lighter engine weight.
According to Ferrari, both the 812 GTS and the F8 Spider come with its
extended seven-year maintenance program. Available across the entire Ferrari range, the program covers
all regular maintenance for the
first seven years of the car's life--"an exclusive service that allows clients the certainty that their car is being kept at peak performance and safety over the years." The service is reportedly available on all markets worldwide and from all dealerships in the official dealership network, which means local Ferrari dealer
Autostrada Motore should offer it as well.
