Ford has added the Remote Rev feature to the 2024 Mustang.
Simply by pressing buttons on the key fob, one can rev the 2024 Ford Mustang without having to step inside the latest iteration of the Blue Oval brand’s pony car.
The Remote Rev feature is available only for 2024 Ford Mustang models outfitted with a V8 engine with automatic transmissions as well as on automatic 2.3-liter engine-equipped Mustang cars with Ford Active Exhaust.
According to the American automotive brand, however, Remote Rev will only be available once the system reaches the optimal temperature after a cold start.
Since operating the Remote Rev feature on the 2024 Ford Mustang relies mainly on the key fob, Ford saw it fitting to look back on the history of the nameplate’s keys.
Ford pointed out that in 1965, the company released the Mustang coupe key with the iconic “pony” badge on it. Two years later, Ford introduced double-sided keys that could be inserted into the tumbler in either orientation eliminating the risks of breaking the key or damaging the keyhole.
In 1994, Ford released the first Mustang with an optional key fob allowing owners to enjoy additional features on the sporty pony car. In 1996, Ford introduced Passive Anti-Theft System (PATS), an immobilizer technology linked to the transponder in the key.
Taking advantage of the advancements in technology, Ford then announced the TracKey for the Mustang Boss 302 in 2012, which loaded performance-inspired software into the powertrain control module, aka your vehicle’s brain. Three years later, Ford introduced factory-installed Remote Start systems for the Mustang. It was made available only for automatic transmission-equipped models.
One year later, Ford unveiled the FordPass app, giving drivers the ability to control their automobiles from their smartphones. In 2018, Ford introduced the engine start/stop feature to the Mustang, and in 2021, presented a Mustang Mach-E with a phone as a key.
