Ford Explorer earns Top Safety Pick+ award from IIHS
Ford announced that the United States-market Explorer sport utility vehicle (SUV) was awarded the Top Safety Pick award by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

Furthermore, the Ford Explorer with the standard safety equipment achieved only a Basic rating in the nighttime vehicle-to-pedestrian front crash prevention test. It also scored a Poor grade in the seatbelt test and an Acceptable rating in the Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children (LATCH) ease of use test.
Ford added that the Mustang Mach-E also achieved a Good rating in all of the crashworthiness tests conducted by the non-profit scientific and educational organization.
When equipped with specific headlights, the electric midsize SUV got a Good score in the headlights tests and a Superior rating in the vehicle-to-vehicle front crash prevention test as well as in the daytime and nighttime vehicle-to-pedestrian front crash prevention evaluations.
In the LATCH ease of use test, the Ford Mustang Mach-E got an Acceptable grade.

The Blue Oval brand said that out of 13 midsize SUV tested, Explorer and the Mustang Mach-E were two of four vehicles to receive the IIHS award.
