The Blue Oval marque has finally revealed the latest version of the Ford Ranger following an announcement made earlier this month.
In a statement, Ford said that the next-generation Ranger — dubbed as the smartest, most versatile and most capable version of the nameplate to date — is the result of deep customer insight, developed through extensive customer research.”
“With Ranger, we’ve had a big extended family for decades,” Ford President and Chief Executive Officer Jim Farley said.
“This truck has always been a trusted partner to small business owners, farmers, families, adventurers, commercial fleets and so many more in more than 180 markets around the world. And with the new Ranger, this is our moment to deliver. Not just a product our customers will love, but an always-on experience that will help us build strong and lasting relationships with them. This is the midsize truck people will want to own and experience,” he added.
The front fascia of the next-generation Ranger features a defined new grille flanked with C-clamp matrix LED headlights.
The interior of the next-generation Ford Ranger is treated with premium car-like features such as soft-touch materials and the portrait-style center touchscreen (either 10.1-inch or 12-inch) powered by Ford’s signature Sync4 connectivity and entertainment system.
“Customers told us the Ranger needs to look tough and needs to inspire confidence,” Ford Ranger Chief Designer Max Tran said. “They were very clear in what Ranger should be, both in the way it looks, and the way it makes them feel.”
The latest version of the Ranger has wheelbase that is 50mm wider compared to its predecessor.
Buyers of the Ford Ranger may choose among the following powertrains: 3.0-L V6 turbo, single-turbo and bi-turbo 2.0 inline four-cylinder diesels as well as the 2.3-L EcoBoost four-cylinder.
Meanwhile, the transmission choices are the 10-speed, six-speed (both in automatic) and six-speed manual.
Further, customers will have a choice of two four-wheel drive systems, an electronic shift-on-the-fly system, or advanced full-time 4x4 system with a set-and-forget mode.
The Ford manufacturing facilities in Thailand and South Africa will start producing the next-generation Ranger beginning next year with other markets to be announced at a later date.
Specific market launch details will be announced accordingly.
