After being teased to the public at the Manila International Auto Show 2023, Ford Philippines has officially launched the next-generation Ranger Raptor.
Set to reinforce its stake in the local pick-up truck arena, the company said the new offering has been developed by Ford Performance with a goal of setting a new bar for off-road performance.
Per the Blue Oval marque’s distributor in the country, the next-generation vehicle comes with a reliable, powerful and efficient powertrain, smart technologies and advanced safety features to elevate the standard of off-road driving.
“Rooted in our Ford Performance DNA, the next-gen Raptor is more capable and tougher than ever. It is designed to conquer any terrain with a bold new look and powerful performance with major upgrades and enhancements to already-popular features that Filipino customers have grown to love,” Ford Philippines Managing Director Mike Breen said. “We are truly excited for the return of the Raptor brand, and we are confident that the second-generation Raptor will continue to resonate with performance pickup enthusiasts in the country.”
As expected, the newly-launched model is powered by a 2.0-liter bi-turbo diesel engine matched to a 10-speed automatic transmission with e-Shifter that provides as much as 207 horsepower and 500 Newton-meters of pulling power. The mill is engineered with seven driving modes (Normal, Sport, Slippery, Rock Crawl, Mud/Ruts, Sand and Baja) that are calibrated to influence traction control, engine, transmission calibration, among others.
In addition, the next-generation Ford Ranger Raptor boasts the following features: full-time four-wheel drive system with the option to switch to rear-wheel drive, a rear locking differential, underbody protection, and aggressive approach and departure angles.
It also comes with 2.5-inch Fox shocks with position sensitive damping technology and is designed with increased wheel travel and outstanding bump absorption to deliver supreme stability and comfort on all terrains.
Further, the vehicle also has a trail control system (more like cruise control tailored for off-road) so that drivers can set a certain speed with the truck to control the throttle and braking functions. With it, the driver can focus entirely on steering through challenging terrains such as rocky trails, muddy tracks, and steep inclines.
As seen in the earlier photos that Carmudi Philippines released prior to the official launch, the next-generation Ford Ranger Raptor wears a strong and mean athletic design. At the fore are the matrix LED headlamps with C-clamp daytime running lights, and the bold FORD lettering at the grille.
The vehicle sits on 17-inch alloy wheels with BF Goodrich K02 high performance all-terrain tires — making it ready off-road ready.
For its cabin, the next-generation Ford Ranger Raptor welcomes occupants with jet fighter-inspired sports seats both in the front and rear with Code Orange stitching. It also has a sports steering wheel with on-center Raptor logo, and magnesium paddle shifters for the driver.
Moreover, the newly-revealed model is also fitted with a 12-inch digital instrument cluster and an equally-sized portrait touchscreen center display with Sync4A communication and entertainment system that are Wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto capable.
Furthermore, the next-generation Ford Ranger Raptor is slapped with numerous driver assistive technologies such as the 360-degree camera with split-view display, as well as a dedicated off-road screen display.
Safety features that are available in the next-generation Ford Ranger Raptor include the following: active park assist 2.0; adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go and lane centering; pre-collision assist with forward collision warning; evasive steer assist; reverse brake assist; lane departure warning; auto high beam; post impact braking; and blind spot information system.
Additionally, the next-generation Ranger Raptor comes with Fordpass, allowing owners to enjoy remote features such as door lock and unlock, vehicle start and stop, vehicle locator and vehicle status.
“When we started working on the next-gen Raptor, we decided early on to go all out in the pursuit of creating the ultimate Ranger. Our team has worked incredibly hard to ensure it is built on the benchmark that we established in 2018 when we first launched the nameplate,” Ford’s T6 Global Program Manager and Product Development Launch Manager Dan Ciccocioppo shared.
“Through simulator tests, computer modelling and punishing real-world testing in the Australian outback, we’ve improved key areas like steering, ride and handling at high and low speeds, on- and off-road. This takes what was an already incredible platform and we further leveled it up to deliver an outstanding driving experience for our Next-Gen Raptor customers,” Ciccocioppo added.
Available in five colors namely Arctic White, Absolute Black, Blue Lightning, Conquer Grey, and Code Orange (additional P15,000), the next-generation Ford Ranger has a starting price of P2.339 million. The pick-up truck, which is served with a five-year warranty is now available for reservation.
Those interested may check out and test drive the vehicle at the opening leg of this year’s Ford Island Conquest. The experiential test drive event will be opened to the public on May 19-21 at the ARCA South Interactive Park in Taguig City from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
