The leadership for the local distributor of American carmaker Ford in the Philippines said that their latest offering, the Ranger FX4 Max, was designed to provide an affordable avenue for off-road enthusiasts.
During a virtual press conference, Ford Philippines President and Managing Director PK Umashankar said that they made room for the 14th member of the Ranger family in the Philippines as they wanted to provide the market a cheaper pickup that has the same DNA as the Ranger Raptor.
He cited that the Ranger was built completely for performance while the Wildtrak 4x4 line is a very capable pick-up truck for cityscapes. “The FX4 Max makes offroading within reach,” Umashankar said during the online presser.
Added to the the local stable to help Ford maintain its positioning as one of the two leaders in the pick-up category this year, the Ranger FX4 Max is being sold at P1.698 million.
This newest offering is powered by a 2.0-liter Bi-Turbo diesel engine that is able to provide more than 210 horsepower and 500Nm torque and is matched to a 10-speed automatic transmission—same as with the higher varieties of the Ranger stable.
Earlier, Umashankar shared that they are eyeing to maintain its position of being the one of the two best-sellers in the pick-up segment. The local distributor of the Blue Oval cornered 24 percent share of the market last year, which is going toe-to-toe with the Toyota Hilux.
The Japanese pick-up truck—the known segment leader in the country—only has 13 variants to offer to the public.
