Ford’s world-renowned icon arrives in the country.

The Mustang Shelby GT500 is considered as the crème de la crème of the Mustang nameplate. Ford Philippines boasts that the new Shelby GT500 variant is fitted with a “new race-inspired athletic design, powerful performance, and advanced technologies that take the Mustang Shelby legacy to the next level.”

In a statement, Ford Philippines Managing director Michael Breen noted that the new Mustang Shelby GT500 is among the Blue Oval’s flagship performance vehicles with a proven race heritage. “The new variant exudes unmistakable Mustang Shelby qualities and characteristics in an enhanced modern iteration as seen by its updated design, performance enhancements, and innovative features, giving Mustang enthusiasts something to get excited about,” Breen was quoted as saying.

Powering the new Mustang Shelby GT500 is a 5.2-liter supercharged cross-plane crank V8 engine that can dish out a peak output of 760hp and 847Nm torque. Paired to a seven-speed Tremec dual clutch transmission, the new Ford Mustang Shelby GT500’s powertrain is engineered to provide higher acceleration, responsiveness, and overall performance.

The new Mustang Shelby GT500 is also armed with other features that boost its capabilities as a fun-to-drive vehicle. These are the following:

  • Magneride damping system (a high-performance system with sensors that monitor body and wheel motion thousands of times per second to adjust shock absorber stiffness and provide ultra-quick responsiveness to changing road conditions);
  • 73 Torsen limited-slip rear differential;
  • Brembo brake calipers;
  • Magnesium tower-to-tower brace;
  • Electronic line lock and launch control (for track use);
  • Five selectable drive modes (Normal, Sport+, Track, Drag/Strip, Wet mode);
  • MacPherson strut with stabilizer bar front suspension and Independent integral link with stabilizer bar rear suspension;
  • Magnesium paddle shifters;
  • Aluminum front bumper beam;
  • Front fascia, fenders, grille, and front splitter that help improve aerodynamic efficiency;
  • Active valve performance exhaust system with quad exhaust tips;

Aside from that, Ford Philippines claimed that the new Mustang Shelby GT500’s handling characteristics have been improved with increased chassis stiffness and defined by precise steering response. “The increased front track width and lower ride height compared to Mustang GT Premium help improve track capability and lateral grip,” the local distributor shared.

While still taking its cues from its famous predecessors, new Mustang Shelby GT500 sports a modern design to highlight its abilities.

It wears self-centering hood pins to fasten the hood and sports a distinguishing design for the front fascia, fenders, grille, and front splitter. It has vinyl over-the-top racing stripes, rear diffuser, rear spoiler, and a larger front radiator block-off plate. Meanwhile, the head and tail lamps (with sequential tri-bar turn signals) are on LED lights.

It sits on 20-inch flow-formed, high-gloss black-painted aluminum wheels and Michelin Pilot Sport 4S Tires.

On the inside, the new Mustang Shelby GT500 has a rotary gear shift dial, Shelby-exclusive aluminum instrument panel trim, Recaro leather-trimmed with Miko Suede seats (with the driver side adjustable in four ways and the passenger two ways). It is fitted with a flat-bottom steering wheel (which holds the paddle shifters) that is on Alcantara leather, and Ford Performance aluminum scuff plates.

Further, the new Mustang Shelby GT500 comes with track apps to provide performance metrics namely the accelerometer that displays lateral and longitudinal g-forces, acceleration times and lap times, plus automatic and countdown starts.

It is also engineered with a 12-inch LCD digital instrument cluster, Sync3 enhanced voice recognition, eight-inch capacitive center touchscreen that is Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatible.

While the car is designed to excite, it is also equipped with comfort and convenience features like the dual-zone automatic temperature control, intelligent access with push-button start, illuminated visor mirror, power windows with global open and front one touch-up/down function, remote start system, and an electric parking brake.

Its safety features consist of AdvanceTrac with electronic stability control, safety belt reminder, and individual tire pressure monitoring system as well as personal safety system with dual-stage front, knee, front-seat side, and side curtain airbags.

Offered in in 11 striking colors namely Antimatter Blue, Carbonized Gray, Grabber Yellow, Oxford White, Shadow Black, Velocity Blue, Race Red, Twister Orange, Iconic Silver, Rapid Red, and Performance Blue, the new Mustang Shelby GT500 has a retail price of P7.76 million (with an additional P15,000 for the Twister Orange hue).
