The Ford Ranger has been one of the Blue Oval brand’s best-selling nameplates. In the Philippines, the model has earned quite a following with many Filipino owners attesting the vehicle’s dependability.
In July, Ford Philippines released the next-generation Ranger in the country. The 2023 model-year pickup truck came with a host of new features, inside and out. Here’s how the new Ford Ranger stacks up with the old one.
At a glance, the differences between the old and the new Ford Ranger are pretty obvious.
The latest iteration of the pickup truck dons a honeycomb grille with larger, rectangular gaps at the fore. Flanking the redesigned grille are new C-shaped headlamps, alongside daytime running lights (DRL), and fog lamps.
Its side profile sports relatively deeper contours on the door panels. Depending on the variant, the new Ford Ranger could be riding on either 16-, 17-, or 18-inch wheels.
Its rear also boasts a refreshed look with a new pair of tail lights.
As for the older model, it has a smaller pair of headlamps accompanied by a smaller-looking grille. Also, the placement of the fog lamps on the older Ford Ranger are seemingly farther from the grille compared to the new one.
The side profile of the old Ford Ranger looks cleaner with a straight and uniform line. A similarly sized set of wheels were also offered with the old version, depending on the variant as well.
The cabin of the new Ford Ranger reflects the pick-up truck's bold exterior styling like the redesigned air-conditioning vents that echo the large gaps found on its grille.
Further catching its occupants’ attention is the 10-inch colored portrait touchscreen infotainment system with Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. The infotainment unit is paired with an eight-inch instrument cluster.
Depending on the variant, the seats and the steering wheel can be had with a leather finish.
The old Ford Ranger is equipped with a smaller, eight-inch infotainment system and a 4.2-inch dual-color instrument cluster.
The next-generation Ford Ranger is powered by either a 2.0-liter Turbo Diesel engine or a 2.0-liter Bi-Turbo Diesel mill. The Turbo Diesel powerplant is mated to either a six-speed manual gearbox or a six-speed automatic transmission. The Bi-turbo Diesel, on the other hand, is matched to a 10-speed automatic.
In terms of power and torque, the former makes around 167 horsepower (hp) with 405Nm of torque while the latter puts out 207 horses with 500Nm of pulling power.
The old Ford Ranger came with either a 2.2-liter Turbo Diesel Common Rail injection (TDCi) engine, or a 2.0-liter (single or bi-turbo) mill. These were paired to a six-speed manual, a six-speed automatic, or a 10-speed automatic transmission.
Maximum output ranges from 158-210hp and 385-500Nm of pulling power.
Improvements endowed to the next-gen Ford Ranger make it a better ride whether it’s commuting to work during the weekdays or taking new adventures during the weekend.
It’s currently offered in seven variants with prices ranging from P1.198 million to P1.875 million.
