With four generations since the '60s, the Ford Transit van has become a household name in the United Kingdom. The Transit's popularity is a result of its impressive cargo-carry capabilities and dependability.
The van also ferried a number of race car drivers to their races, and itself has also been made into a racing van.
And recently in the UK, the Ford Transit Custom continues the iconic name plate’s reign as the best-selling vehicle last month and year to date, Ford UK said.
Combined sales of the Ford Transit Custom van, and the Ford Tourneo Custom people carrier, topped 4,500 sales in April with over 19,000 registrations in the first four months of 2021, the American brand's British counterpart added.
Commercial vehicle (CV) director for Ford of Britain and Ireland Mandy Dean said: “In 2020, the Transit Custom range was just behind the Ford Fiesta as the UK’s best-selling vehicle. This year the Custom is in front, reflecting the surge in van demand for deliveries as the distribution sector adjusts to the pandemic, and the increasing popularity of Tourneo lifestyle vehicles for UK travel.”
The Transit Custom is powered by Ford's EcoBlue diesel engine that promises low emissions. Its tech includes a CV-first Intelligent Speed Assist to help drivers stay within speed limits, and Blind Spot Information System with Cross Traffic Alert.
Meanwhile, the Tourneo Custom is a crowd-carrier with seating for nine people. The seats, which can also be optioned for six passengers, can be configured to accommodate cargo.
They can each be folded flat, tumbled, stowed in multiple locations, or removed completely, enabling customers to create "limousine-like space, maximize the luggage area or meet their own special business or lifestyle requirements."
The Philippine market is no stranger to the Transit van, too. Ford Philippines is offering a 15-seater version of the van, and is powered by a 2.2-liter diesel engine with 385Nm of torque that's mated to a six-speed stick shift.
With a price tag of P1.999 million, its features include a reversing camera and Isofix child seat mounts.
The local distributor positions the Transit for the use of businesses related to education, hotels and resorts, travel and tourism, medical, business process outsourcing, corporate, and even retail.
