Ford has announced the details of the Dark Horse trim, which the Blue Oval brand will offer on the seventh-generation Mustang.
According to the American carmaker, the Mustang team has created a distinctive collection of colors and materials that amplifies the dark aura and digital-age style of the iconic pony car.
“The sinister and track-hungry attitude of Mustang Dark Horse inspired us to curate colors and materials in a way that underscores the vehicle’s athleticism. We spent extra time on the cockpit, ensuring the look, feel, and function of everything a performance driver could want conveys the performance Mustang Dark Horse is capable of,” said Ford Senior Color and Materials Designer Carrie Kennerly.
The Dark Horse trim gives the 2024 Ford Mustang a signature paint color. Dubbed Blue Ember Metallic, the paint — which features special effect pigments of deep blues infused with a warm amber hue — changes its color in different lights and angles.
Per the Dearborn-based brand, it was the Ford Color Mastering team that developed the Dark Horse trim’s paint.
“If color is a reflection of a vehicle’s personality, Blue Ember transforms the Mustang Dark Horse and highlights a natural saddle-color horse hidden inside the strong chiseled fastback’s exterior form. Multiple elements are combined to give Blue Ember its intriguing and stealthy appearance that really drives home how unique Mustang Dark Horse is,” Kennerly commented.
Amplifying the unique look of the Dark Horse trim are optional vinyl and hand-painted graphic options.
Meanwhile, the Dark Horse trim gives the interior of the seventh-generation Ford Mustang features an all-new anodized blue, lightweight titanium manual shift knob; anodized silver paddle shifters (for the 10-speed SelectShift automatic transmission variant); and a flat-bottom steering wheel wrapped in performance suede.
Reflecting the exterior paint are Bright Indigo Blue stitchings found on the instrument and door panels, seats, gear shift boot, and center console trim and lid.
Further, it is equipped with a digital instrument cluster and a 13.2-inch infotainment system. For added flair, the Ford Mustang Dark Horse features an instrument panel badge that includes the vehicle’s chassis number.
Other notable interior appointments include Black Alley appliques on the car’s bezels and vents as well as tech-inspired “white noise” and carbon fiber-inspired grains.
Customers who want an even more sporty look can opt for the Mustang Dark Horse Appearance Package, which includes specially-bolstered Recaro performance seats featuring exclusive Deep Indigo Blue bolsters trimmed with Bright Indigo Blue accent stitching, plus Black Dinamica suede in the seat’s center for improved lateral grip.
Deep Indigo Blue seatbelts and distinctive seat perforations with blue accents beneath the seating surface round out the blue theme.
The 2024 Ford Mustang Dark Horse will be available in “summer” (from June to September) of 2023.
