The Ford Mustang GTD is equipped with an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission. Now dubbed as the “highest horsepower street-legal Mustang ever developed by Ford,” the 2025 Mustang GTD is equipped with a symphonic supercharged 5.2-liter V8 engine mated to a rear-mounted eight-speed dual-clutch transmission.
“We obsessed about the racing technology under its skin. What makes it go is even more compelling than what you can see when it passes you by. When you look at the engineering, the aerodynamics, how the powertrain works, the Mustang GTD is a rocket ship for the road,” commented Ford Performance Motorsports Global Director Mark Rushbrook.
According to the Blue Oval brand, the 2025 Ford Mustang GTD was developed by many of the same people behind the company’s Mustang race cars and the Le Mans-winning GT.
On that note, the actual engine under the car’s hood feature technologies that are designed to improve its performance both on and off the track.
For example, the powerful V8 mill features dual air inlets and a dry-sump engine oil system.
Complementing the abovementioned power unit are the available active aerodynamics and enormous grip from huge tires mounted to an advanced dual ride height short-long arm front and multi-link rear suspension.
And when the time comes to bring the 2025 Ford Mustang GTD to a halt, the powerful pony car relies on high-performance Brembo carbon ceramic brakes. These, Ford pointed out, are optimized for heat rejection leading to harder, more consistent stopping further into the braking zone.
“Mustang GTD represents the very best of Ford Motor Company and what our team needs to do every day. This is what happens when we take what we’re good at and push the boundaries to see where the bubble stops. It represents the essence of the transformation we’re going through at Ford, from software to special edition cars,” Ford President and Chief Executive Officer Jim Farley noted.
The Ford Mustang GTD will only be produced in limited numbers and is said to be available in late 2024 or early 2025.
