Foton and Piaggio's Porter NP6 aims to be green and reliable
Foton Motor and Piaggio Group jointly released the Piaggio Porter NP6 light commercial vehicle (LCV) in Europe.
Foton said the Porter NP6 meets the Euro 6 emission standards and achieves high fuel economy. Both manufacturers added that the LCV is targeted at the urban logistic services market in Europe.
The Chinese truck maker develops the trucks, then sends the knock-down kit to the Italian motor company, who will assemble them in its Italian factory.
To comply with the truck manufacturing standards in Europe, the Porter NP6 has a more compact structure and is highly versatile, Foton said. It also meets Euro NCAP collision standards.
With a "competitive loading capacity," the LCV is poised to be a reliable, and aim to give a "comfortable working environment for truck drivers."
Powered by a 1.5-liter engine, which can run on gasoline, gas and LPG, or gas with LNG/CNG, the Porter NP6 "helps customers further cut their fuel costs and is readily adaptable for... transportation needs in urban areas."
The gasoline-only engine makes 104hp and 136Nm of torque.
The Porter NP6 came about after Foton and Piaggio's official partnership in 2018. Since then, the two companies have been working closely to develop LCVs. By the end of 2021, they aim to deliver 8,000 Porter NP6 units to customers in Europe.
Considered to be the largest manufacturer of motorcycles and scooters in Europe, Piaggio has ventured into the LCV market in recent years.
“By upgrading our classic Porter, the new Porter NP6 represents a new milestone in our company's history," president of Piaggio Group Roberto Colaninno said.
"Boasting a rich experience in developing light commercial vehicles," Foton Motor reached a 10 million-unit global sales milestone for all of its CVs this year.
Here in the Philippines, Foton is offering an LCV in the Gratour Dropside truck. This truck is powered by a 1.5-liter engine that generates 110hp and 142Nm of pull.
