President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. signed the memorandum that prolongs the free bus ride program.In its official Facebook page, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) shared that President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. recently approved the memorandum that extends the free bus rides until December 2022.
The department said that the memorandum was the product of the meeting between Marcos, DOTr Secretary Jaime Bautista and Executive Secretary Atty. Vic Rodriguez.
"Considering the availability of budget for Service Contracting under GA 2022, the undersigned recommends the continuation of the Libreng Sakay Program for all passengers of the EDSA Bus Carousel," the memorandum stated.
Meanwhile, the transportation department said that the country’s chief executive supported the same measure that will provide free train rides to students who will use the Mass Rapid Transit Line 3 (MRT-3), Light Rail Transit Line 2 (LRT-2) and Philippine National Railways (PNR) once in-person classes begin in August.
The Department of Education (DepEd) — now under Vice President Sara Duterte — is expecting that more than 38,000 schools nationwide are ready to conduct face-to-face classes for the school year 2022-2023.
