The local arm of Guangzhou Automobile Group Company (GAC) will start competing in the Philippine electric vehicle arena within the latter part of 2023.
In a chance interview at the launch of the GS3 Emzoom, GAC Motor Philippines Brand Head Redentor Cajayon said that the target is to bring in a hybrid vehicle in the final quarter of the year.
Without giving a specific date yet, Cajayon told Carmudi Philippines that the Astara Philippines-led firm's first new energy vehicle offering will be the GAC Emkoo Hybrid.
In China, the GAC Emkoo Hybrid is powered by a 2.0-liter Atkinson engine with electric motor. The combination can deliver up to 130 horsepower and 180-Newton-meters of torque.
Aside from that, it is also equipped with a switch that intelligently utilizes the electric mill and internal combustion engine to help recover energy.
Further, the Philippine-spec GAC Emkoo Hybrid could have the following convenience features namely panoramic sunroof with electronic sunshade, dynamic ambient lights, and three screens (head-up display, LCD instrument cluster, and touchscreen infotainment system).
Also, those who will wait for the hybrid version of the GAC Emkoo could possibly enjoy the following safety technologies namely the cage-type bodywork, collision energy absorption control, ultra-wide anti-collision beam, and integrated brake controls system.
To note, the gasoline-propelled GAC Emkoo sport utility vehicle was launched in the Philippines in April 2023. Two months back, the firm reduced the crossover’s pricing. The entry-level option now wears a P1.298-million price tag while the top-of-the-line variety (GL) is retailed for P1.498 million.
Given the current pricing, we can expect the GAC Emkoo Hybrid’s price to be north of P1.5 million.
