Following the announcement that it will unveil a new offering soon, Astara Philippines confirmed the arrival of its upcoming offering under GAC (Guangzhou Automobile Corporation): the GS8 4x4.
The confirmation came by way of an official invite sent to Carmudi Philippines sent for the opening day of the GAC Motor Discovery Drive Fest.
“On behalf of Astara Philippines, we invite you to celebrate with us on August 25, the first day of our GAC Discovery Drive Fest at the Glorietta 2, as we introduce the GS8 4X4 — our latest offering in GAC Motor's flagship SUV line,” the invitation stated.
Since GAC Motor Philippines has yet to share the official details about the forthcoming trim, we have checked Chinese automotive marque’s global website to see what could be seen on the soon-to-be-revealed offer.
Since it is just a 4x4 version of the nameplate that is already available in the local market, the arriving GAC GS8 version will likely have the same dimensions: 4,980 millimeters (mm) long; 1,950mm wide; and 1,780mm tall with a 2,920mm wheelbase. It will also surely wear that muscly design language complemented by the signature powerful wing grille design, “eyes of the conqueror headlamps, ruby diamond taillights and 19-inch aluminum alloy wheels wrapped with 245/55 tires.
In addition, the arriving GAC GS8 4x4 (which will definitely be the top-of-the-line option among the flagship sport utility vehicle’s lineup) might have a luxurious seven-seater cabin, thanks to the three-zone air-conditioning system (with vents on the second and third row), leather seats, panoramic sunroof with power-adjusted sunshades, ambient lighting system, among others.
The possible 10-inch touchscreen display (seen across all variants of the GAC GS8 4x4) could be seen with either a six- or 10-speaker system.
Customers could also expect the GAC GS8 4x4 to be powered by the same 2.0-liter gasoline engine that can be found on the nameplate's 4x2 variation. The said mill can deliver as much as 248 horsepower and 400 Newton-meters of torque — same with the nameplate’s 4x2 iteration.
Overseas, the GAC GS8 4x4 is offered in two variants: GL and GT.
Further, the safety technologies that might be fitted in the GAC GS8 4x4 could be front-row knee airbags (alongside the dual front, front side, and side curtain airbags), together with the electronic stability program, hydraulic brake assist, hill start assist and hill descent control, electronic parking brake with auto hold function, and impact-sensing door unlock system.
Moreover, we are hoping that the Philippine-spec GAC GS8 4x4 will come with adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, and engine start-stop system.
