Gandara-Matuguinao Road in Calbayog City Now on Final Phase
The third and final phase of the Gandara-Matuguinao Road connecting the municipalities of Gandara and Matuguinao in the city of Calbayog, Samar Province will start within the second quarter of this year, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) announced.
In a statement, DPWH Region 8 Director Edgar Tabacon was quoted as saying that the the last groundbreaking rites for the 3.5 kilometers of road, 80-meter slope protection works, and a 1.5-kilometer concrete lined canal is slated on the second quarter of 2018.
Tabacon added that upon completion of the last phase, the P720 million Gandara-Matuguinao Road will be a 13.5-kilometer, two-lane paved road.
A total of 10 kilometers of the road was completed in the previous years.
"With a paved Gandara-Matuguinao Road, rice farmers will be able to transport their agricultural products to major markets faster and easier. This road is significant since both Gandara and Matuguinao towns are deemed as rice-producing municipalities in the province of Samar," Tabacon said in the statement.
The Gandara-Matuguinao Road Project is a multi-year program of the Department that was funded under Payapa at Masaganang Pamayanan (PAMANA) since 2014.
