The automotive consortium also stated that its strides in carbon neutrality will be led by two major sources of energy: green electricity and green methanol. Geely Holding will work with supply chain partners to transition towards zero-carbon materials, zero-carbon manufacturing, and zero-carbon energy.
Showing that Geely Holding is on the right track to achieving the aforementioned goals are its sales of plug-in hybrid and battery electric vehicles, which more than doubled to more than 640,000 vehicles in 2022, representing a growth of 100.3 percent.
Further, Geely Auto’s Xi’an factory, which produces several brands from across the wider Geely Holding Group, became the first plant in China to achieve zero-carbon operations. Additionally, 13 other Geely plants in China were rated “Green Factories” by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.
Also, London Electric Vehicle Company’s Coventry plant (a company backed by Geely Holding) ran on 100 percent green electricity in 2022. Similarly, Volvo’s Taizhou plant (a company owned by Geely) has also achieved 100 percent carbon neutrality in electricity use.
