Geely Auto teases 4th-gen Emgrand; will PH get this too?
China’s largest privately-owned automotive marque Geely Auto recently revealed the latest version of its Emgrand sedan.
The newest Emgrand— now on its fourth-generation—has been an important part of Geely Auto’s lineup, both in the domestic market and overseas, for almost two decades since its inception in 2008.
Quickly gaining popularity, the Emgrand sedan has been one of its best-selling sedans with monthly sales often reaching over 20,000 units.
Developed based on Geely Auto’s B-segment Modular Architecture (BMA), the new sedan offering highlights “the Emgrand’s return to its roots, with much emphasis on value and technology offerings.”
The architecture utilized in the Emgrand sedan is the same as with Geely Coolray, which has been warmly welcomed in the country. Other models that use BMA are the Binray (Geely Bin Rui in China) and Geely Icon SUV.
Further, the new Emgrand will be part of the 2022 Asian Games to share its Spirit of Champions ethos with the games organizer as part of the quadrennial meet’s partnership with the Chinese automaker.
Geely Auto Group CEO Gan Jiayue said, “The Spirit of Champions isn’t only for the world of sports but is also recognized by Geely Auto as we continue to push boundaries in our pursuit to provide better user experience for our global consumers. We believe that the fourth generation Emgrand represents the best of Geely Auto in terms of quality, technology and experience”.
As a highly competitive offering, the Emgrand has been an essential part of Geely Auto’s lineup, both in the domestic market and overseas, for over a decade.
According to Geely, the official reveal of the latest sedan offering will be announced in the coming weeks.
In the local setting, the Emgrand previously made it to local shores care of Geely’s former distributor, Autochina.
Carmudi Philippines is guessing that the Emgrand might be making a comeback this year, as Geely Automobile International Corporation Deputy General Manager Jenny Jin revealed in an earlier press conference that they will be bringing a sedan this year.
Although a bit late on the targeted release date (Jin mentioned April 2021 as eyed release date), we are still holding on to then SGAP President Mikihisa Takayama claim, saying that the company’s focus on unveiling two models per year “has not changed.”
Will this be the model that will be available on local shores soon?
