Despite the barrage of problems faced by the local automotive scene due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Chinese automotive brand Geely has some good news to share.
Geely Philippines—under official distributor Sojitz G Auto Philippines (SGAP)—is now at the 10th spot in sales for the month of June after garnering a total of 184 units sold. This, as the company has only brought in two vehicles to the market as of the moment: the Geely Coolray and recently-unveiled Azkarra.
This is definitely good news for the both Geely and SGAP, as the said volume is the brand’s highest monthly sales record since January of this year. For the first half of the year, Geely Philippines has already rolled out a total of 549 units.
SGAP's sales performance of 184 units represents a 160 percent increase from its 70 units delivered two months back.
As a matter of fact, Geely Coolray has become a top seller among 5-seater subcompact crossovers this June with 154 units sold.
Sojitz G Auto Philippines (SGAP) President and CEO Mikihisa Takayama welcomed the positive output.
“This is definitely a very positive development as every auto brand tries to bounce back during this post-ECQ period. We are very delighted of this outcome since it is mainly driven by one model, the Coolray, and only one showroom located in North Edsa,” he said.
“We expect Geely sales to improve further as we open new dealership outlets and further complement our product line up this year,” Takayama added.
Earlier, both Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines-Truck Manufacturers Association (CAMPI-TMA) and Association of Vehicle Importers and Distributors (AVID) reported an uptrend in month-over-month sales, but the two groups have yet to recover from the year-to-date slump caused by the turnout of recent events in the country.
Early this month, SGAP announced the group's latest brand ambassadors for the Geely Coolray, namely singer/songwriter Rico Blanco and TV host and news personality Gretchen Ho.
