Geely looks to bring in new model in Q2
An executive of Chinese automotive brand Geely assured that its local counterpart, Sojitz G Auto Philippines (SGAP), is on track to bring a new model before the end of the first half of 2021.
During a virtual press conference at the 2021 Shanghai Auto Show, Geely Automobile International Corporation Deputy General Manager Jenny Jin expressed confidence that the company is ready to offer the Philippine market Geely's forthcoming model to expand the product lineup in the Philippines.
“What would be the next model for Philippine is really up to the needs of Filipino users. As you know, we have already brought three SUVs into the market and for sure, we are going to enhance our product range and make the mix more powerful,” Jin said in response to a Carmudi Philippines question during the 2021 Auto Shanghai press briefing.
“But believe us, we are ready to bring that model in,” Jin added.
Further, Geely Automobile International Corporation General Manager Michael Song noted that Geely has a “lot of options in Geely’s product portfolio.”
“What we are going to bring to the market. we need to make it suitable for the Filipino market, so the specific model will be reported to you by our partner Sojitz,” Song noted.
While there is still no concrete answer as to what the vehicle will be added in the SGAP stable, we are still banking on our earlier claim that they will reintroduce the Emgrand nameplate locally.
Here’s why.
During the launch of the Geely Okavango in November last year, Jin spilled the beans that they will bring a sedan for their next vehicle introduction to the local automotive market. As we have reported earlier, we only saw three names under Geely’s sedan body type: the Bo Rui, the Binray and the Emgrand.
We are still firmly clinging to our our guess as among the three; the Emgrand has somehow a name recall as the then distributor of Geely vehicles Autochina had already marketed the badge prior to SGAP.
Geely’s best-selling Emgrand is available in four varieties such as the GT (with four powertrains to choose from) the GL (three drivetrain options), New Emgrand (two sub-variants) and the Emgrand EV kind.
