Geely officially launches PH subsidiary

MANILA: With a goal to recapture the hearts of local buyers, Geely Auto had its brand relaunch in the Philippines anew.

For its first major event in the country, Geely Motor Philippines (GMP), the marque’s subsidiary in the country, conducted an event wherein it highlighted its new and upcoming offerings.

“Innovation and inclusivity are at the heart of Geely’s operations,” GMP President Will Wan said.

“Geely will not only be making cars, but we are also creating a better way of living. We aim to bring safety, technology, innovative thinking, and cutting-edge design to Filipino users in a more accessible way. We are enabling them to explore new horizons, possibilities, and perspectives to see the world in full,” he added.

EX5 preview

Being served as one of the show’s highlights is the preview of the all-new Geely EX5.

The said electrified crossover has the following measurements:

Its exterior comes with the redesigned logo (six-window insignia in a rectangular layout), AN aerodynamic profile with drag coefficient of 0.269, sharp headlamp housings, J-shaped daytime running lights light, and a light bar that connects the taillamps.

The upcoming model also has a luxurious and modern cabin with its minimalist arrangement, flexible seating, additional storage spaces that provide up to 50-percent more capacity than industry average, as well as the FLYME Auto and FLYME Sound system that guarantees connectivity to occupants and immersive audio experience.

Its dash features two screens:

• 10-inch instrument panel
• 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system

Powering the Geely EX5 is an 11-in-1 electric motor that, on paper, can provide:

Propelling the vehicle in a front-wheel-drive configuration, the electric sport utility vehicle can dash 0-100 kilometers per hour (kph) in 6.9 seconds and hit a top speed of 175 kph.

Dishing out power to the Geely EX5’s motor is a 60.22 kilowatt-hour lithium iron phosphate battery (Short Blade) that gives the vehicle a range of up to 495 kilometers (based on New European Driving Cycle standards).

The mill also offers three drive modes namely:

• Eco
• Normal
• Sport

GMP has yet to announce the forthcoming model’s pricing but has already begun accepting pre-orders until March 31. During the event, GMP shared that those who are interested only need to pay the P10,000-reservation fee, instead of P110,0000.

Refreshed offerings

Aside from the model preview, the company also revealed its newest offerings by revealing the spruced-up versions of the Geely Coolray and Emgrand.

The Geely Coolray’s refreshed version (which was already in the local market since September 2024) measures:

It also sports an updated grille flanked by energy matrix LED headlamps and individual daytime running lights, a roof spoiler, and quad exhaust pipes, and 18-inch Tomahawk-style wheels and sport brake calipers.

Its interior has boasts leather portions found on the multi-function steering wheels, seats, and door panels and has the following amenities:

• Floating 10.25-inch liquid crystal display instrument panel
• 12.3-inch high-definition touchscreen (with Apple Carplay connectivity)
• Rhythmic ambient lighting
• Panoramic sunroof
• Wireless charging pad
• Front seat ventilation
• Electronically-adjustable driver seat
• Front and rear air-conditioning outlets

Under the crossover’s hood is a four-cylinder, 1.5-liter turbocharged NordThor Power gasoline engine that can dish out the following numbers:

Power is sent to the wheels via the seven-speed wet dual-clutch transmission — which lets the vehicle accelerate 100 kph from rest in 7.6 seconds.

Its myriad of safety and driver-assistive technologies consist of the following:

• Intelligent automatic parking assist (composed of the adaptive parking brake and 12 sensors)
• 540-degree panoramic system
• Intelligent four-way digital video recorder
• Tire pressure monitoring system
• Electronic stability control

• Hydraulic brake assist
• Hill hold control
• Hill descent control
• Cruise control system
• Six airbags

The new Geely Coolray is available in Purple Prism, Blur Gray, Bolt White, and Fireblast Red, and Voltaic Teal can be had in the following trims:

• Sport Plus (LG): P1.329 million
• Sport Plus: P1.299 million
• Premium Plus: P1.199 million
• Comfort Plus: P1.139 million

Meanwhile, the new Geely Emgrand has the following dimensions:

The subcompact sedan did not bear any exterior aesthetics updates as it still has the familiar trapezoidal chrome grill with vertical slats and headlamps (either in halogen or LED) with delay-off function.

The improvement in the vehicle starts at the infotainment system as it now carries a 12.3-inch high-definition touchscreen.

Aside from that, the car now has a new powertrain combination made up of the 1.5D engine and a six-speed automatic gearbox.
