Despite being a new contender in the subcompact sedan market and a relatively young player in the industry, Sojitz G Auto Philippines (SGAP) is already targeting big numbers for the newly launched Geely Emgrand.
SGAP General Manager for Sales and Marketing Froilan Dytiangquin said that the company is eyeing to deliver around 3,000 examples of the Emgrand to buyers in 2022.
He revealed this during the recent virtual introduction of the vehicle, saying that there is still a demand in the category where the all-new Geely Emgrand is being fielded.
To note, the all-new Geely Emgrand will be competing against the likes of the Toyota Vios (which was last updated in July 2020), Honda City (now on its fifth generation), and the Nissan Almera (which offers an all-turbo roster since October last year).
The local arm of the Chinese automaker expressed confidence on the comebacking nameplate as the company noted that Philippines is the first country outside China that will offer the fourth-generation Geely Emgrand following its global debut last year. According to SGAP, the move serves as a “testament to Geely’s high confidence towards the Philippine market especially after the exponential sales growth SGAP has been achieving.
Further, the Geely Emgrand has been a consistent best-seller in its home country for nine consecutive years with cumulative sales of more than 3.38 million units until last year.
The all-new Geely Emgrand comes in six colors namely Proud Teal, dark blue, gold, gray, red, and white, and is offered in two variants: the Comfort (priced at P798,000) and the Premium (P908,000).
Both offerings wear a 1.5 liter-Dual Continuous Variable Valve Timing naturally aspirated power mill (capable of dishing out 102 horses and 142Nm of torque) paired to an eight-speed continuous variable transmission.
“The Geely Emgrand aims to continue what we have begun from our young brand. We have heard and listened to our customers and this gave us the confidence to bring in a sedan for the Filipino market. Now, we are offering a sedan that will inspire you to elevate your life, be driven and provide you a more worthy vehicle for your daily mobility needs,” SGAP President and Chief Executive Officer Yosuke Nishi said.
Further, SGAP said that during the launch period, customers who will purchase the Emgrand will automatically get a P50,000 discount and a free one-year periodic maintenance service inclusive of parts, oil and labor. Further, those who will get the all-new Geely Emgrand from until May 31 will automatically receive a raffle entry for a chance to be one of the three lucky winners of P250,000 savings or rebate.
Relatedly, the company is eyeing to achieve sales of more than 10,000 units across all its vehicle offerings by yearend — given the strong sales performance last year and the SGAP’s current goal for the Emgrand.
