Geely rolls out 4th-gen Emgrand
Chinese automobile brand Geely has recently launched the fourth-generation Emgrand. Geely’s refreshed flagship sedan is the first in the series to be developed on the company's B-segment Modular Architecture (BMA).
As a result, the fourth-gen Emgrand enjoys the BMA platform’s advanced properties which include “a sleeker body, greater space, improved comfort, better handling, higher quality, and Geely’s latest technologies.”
Outside, the new Emgrand sedan wears Geely’s latest interpretation of its signature expanding cosmos grille flanked by sharp LED headlamps. At the rear, it features high-mounted LED tail lamps that are connected by a long horizontal line. In addition, the overall body dimensions of the fourth-gen Emgrand features a wider profile which helps the budget-friendly sedan achieve a low center of gravity and an ultra-low 0.27Cd drag coefficient.
With improved proportions, the fourth-gen Emgrand now features a larger interior space which paves the way for a new double-layered three-dimensional storage compartment on the central control console. Likewise, the boot space at the rear has also been increased. That said, spatial visibility when sitting inside the cabin has been improved with its A-pillars moved to locations where blind spots have effectively been reduced.
The chassis of the new Emgrand, said Geely, has been tuned by experts in China and Europe. The said tuning improved handling as well as NVH performance.
Safety was also considered as the Chinese carmaker now equips the Emgrand with Bosch’s latest 9.3 electronic stability program (ESP) system.
Power will be coming from Geely’s 1.5-liter DVVT ultra-light all-aluminum engine which will be mated to either a five-speed manual or a CVT which Geely said simulates an eight-speed automatic transmission. Geely adds that this setup produces 112hp with 147Nm of torque.
Of course, being the latest iteration of the Emgrand sedan, Geely packed it with some of the brand’s most advanced car technologies which include a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 10.25-inch floating central infotainment panel, a CN95 intelligent purifying AC system, an AI voice assistant, and the brand’s GKUI Geely Smart Ecosystem.
Produced for the local market, at least for the moment, the fourth-gen Emgrand will be made in Geely’s Changxing plant.
Here in the Philippines, Geely is yet to add a sedan to the current lineup which includes the Coolray, Azkarra, and the Okavango, all of which are crossovers and SUVs.
