Geely targets setup of 5,000 EV battery swapping stations in China by 2025
Geely Technology Group, the Geely brand’s subsidiary company, showcased battery swapping technology at the recently held 2021 Wuzhen Internet Conference. Here, Geely also provided further details on the future layout of its services.
Dubbed as E-Energee, the said battery swapping technology was launched in September of last year in Chongqing. Over the past 12 months, Geely has expanded its battery swapping service to 10 Chinese provinces with the goal of bringing 5,000 stations online across China by 2025.
According to Geely, drivers using the E-Energee service can swap their batteries for a fully charged one in less than a minute. The technology behind this fast battery swapping service is a station that automatically swaps the battery without the drivers ever exiting their vehicles.
Payment is automated and done through an automatic payment registration service.
Geely Technology Group began researching battery swapping technologies as early as 2017. Its R&D team now has over 1,000 employees and is registering hundreds of patents for innovative technologies intended for the development of battery swap vehicle architectures.
The current E-Energee service is predominantly used by mobility fleets who are able to have their electric vehicles running with greater efficiency by simply swapping the batteries which eliminate longer charging times.
