GM to strengthen EV components, V8 engine production with $918-million investment
General Motors (GM) announced that it is planning on investing around US$918 million (P49.943 billion) in four manufacturing sites in the United States (US), strengthening the brand’s electric vehicle (EV) components and V8 engine production capacity.

“Today we are announcing significant investments to strengthen our industry-leading lineup of full-size pickups and SUVs by preparing four US facilities to build GM’s sixth generation Small Block V-8 engine. These investments, coupled with the hard work and dedication of our team members in Flint, Bay City, Rochester and Defiance, enable us to build world-class products for our customers and provide job security at these plants for years to come,” said GM Global Manufacturing and Sustainability Executive Vice President Gerald Johnson.
Of the aforementioned US$918-million investment, GM will place US$55 million (P2.992 billion) in its Defiance Operations in Ohio. Meanwhile, GM will be putting US$68 million (P3.7 billion) into its Rochester Operations in New York. Finally, GM will allocate US$579 million (P31.505 billion) to its Flint Engine Operations and US$216 million (P11.753 billion) to its Bay City GPS facility in Michigan.
