Gogoro is said to have saved more than 627,000 tons of carbon dioxide since it launched.During an event held at the Globe headquarters in Bonifacio Global City, the three companies announced the commercial public release of Gogoro Smartscooters and battery-swapping stations in Metro Manila, which are expected to become operational come the fourth quarter of 2023.
“We in the Globe Group are very proud to bring Gogoro Smartscooters and battery-swapping to the Philippines, a transport ecosystem that marries mobility innovation and sustainability. This year, Filipinos will have access to these electric two-wheelers and Gogoro’s convenient and cost-efficient battery-swapping technology, another first in the Philippines,” Globe Group President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Ernest Cu was quoted saying.
Gogoro is a mobility company based in Taiwan where it has approximately 540,000 riders. The Gogoro Smartscooter comes with features appealing to commuters who travel short distances on a daily basis. Things like digital traction control, over speed alert, a tire pressure sensor, and automotive-grade headlights make it a great scooter for riders of all levels.
It also comes with face ID, digitally encrypted cards, and a smart battery, which makes the scoots virtually unstealable.
Power comes from a hyper-efficient, water-cooled motor equipped with a carbon belt for silent comfort. It is paired with a removable battery with multiple layers of protection to prevent overheating, short-circuiting, and other potential hazards.
Speaking of batteries, Gogoro has deployed more than one million smart batteries in Taiwan at 12,000 battery-swapping stations with riders swapping more than 400,000 batteries per day.
The company is said to have saved more than 627,000 tons of carbon dioxide since it launched.
Looking to replicate its success in Taiwan, Gogoro — alongside its partner companies — plans to establish a network of battery-swapping stations in Metro Manila and across the country.
“Our partnership with the Globe Group and Ayala Corporation in the Philippines is a major milestone in our mission to transform urban transportation and provide an accessible path for riders to adopt sustainable urban mobility and play a key role in battling climate change and making the world better for all. We look forward to working together to deliver a sustainable transport system that will improve air quality, reduce carbon emissions, and provide a superior riding experience for consumers in the Philippines,” said Gogoro Founder and CEO Horace Luke.
The three firms announced that 70 Globe employees will trial battery-swapping and the Gogoro Smartscooters for two months. The said employees will share insights on their experience to ensure an even better customer experience once the e-bikes become available to the public later this year.
“The Gogoro ecosystem is very convenient as its swap-and-go technology allows riders to swap out depleted batteries for charged ones in just seconds and go on their way. With the current traffic situation in the metro, these Smartscooters will serve as an eco-friendly alternative to ease congestion while at the same time reducing carbon emissions,” commented Globe Capital Venture Holdings Inc. Director Bernie Llamzon.
