Hamilton Downplays Possible Transfer Rumors

Lewis Hamilton

British F1 race car driver Lewis Hamilton has downplayed the rumors of him leaving Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula 1 Team.

Earlier rumors claimed that the six-time champ Hamilton might leave Mercedes team—where he had his five titles to date— for Scuderia Ferrari.

In a report from The Sun, is seemingly suggesting that Hamilton's supposed transfer was hampered because of the noises from Scuderia about Sebastian Vettel—whom he had trade bombs in the past.

Hamilton responded to the article on his Instagram account, using Sun's headline:

‘STALLED BY SEB Lewis Hamilton’s dreams of mega-money Ferrari move dashed as Sebastian Vettel reveals plans to stay’ to deny these allegations.

Hamilton wrote: “First off, there is no dream of a dash to another team. I am with my dream team.

“Second, theres [sic> not a thing in my way as I’m not trying to move. I’m with the people who have cared from day 1. We are the best team! @mercedesamgf1.”

Based on Formula 1 website, speculations about Hamilton's possible switch to Ferrari grew during the 2019 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, after Hamilton and Ferrari chairman John Elkan reportedly met began to circulate.

And the two actually met.

But CEO Louis Camilleri told that supposed the meeting was "blown out of proportion", and told journalists at a last year that it was a social event where the two met  as the two shared common friends.

Hamilton, who first started his Formula One career with McLaren signed his contract with Mercedes in 2013. He replaced the retiring Michael Schumacher, and was reunited with his childhood karting teammate, Nico Rosberg.

The move was initially met with surprise and skepticism, but Hamilton quickly dominated the race track with his first win winning at the Hungarian Grand Prix. Later on, he would win many more awards for Mercedes-Benz, and would cement him as the most successful British driver in Formula 1 history.

Hamilton has won the British Grand Prix six times, and is currently the best-paid driver in the history of Formula One, reportedly earning around £40 million (PhP 2.5 billion)  per year in his two-year contract with Mercedes.
