Honda Philippines Inc. (HPI) launched the Transalp 750 at the recently held Makina Moto Show 2023, bolstering the roster of locally available high-displacement adventure motorcycles.
Its arrival was duly met by challengers, specifically its segment rival, the Yamaha Ténéré 700.

While both adventure bikes look the part, there are subtle differences between the two that might affect a motorcycle enthusiast’s buying decision.
For example, the Yamaha Ténéré 700 boasts a rally-bred face with four LED headlights, giving it an aggressive front end. This sharp visage, Yamaha explained, is inspired by the latest Dakar factory race bikes. Flanking it are two extended turn signals and a naked handlebar with hand guards for added protection.
Noticeable is its upside-down gold telescopic fork at the front with a 90/90 21-inch tire. Here, one will also find a 282-millimeter (mm) hydraulic dual disc brake.
To its rear is a swingarm link-type suspension that holds a 150/70 18-inch rubber and a 245mm hydraulic single disc brake.
As for the Honda Transalp 750, it does offer a sleeker, more streamlined look. At the fore, the adventure bike flaunts a more tamed expression with an LED headlight flanked by protruding signal lights and a naked handlebar.
The Honda Transalp 750’s Showa front fork (with 200mm travel) is painted in black, which gives it a discreet, not-so-flashy appearance. Connected to it is a dual “wave” disc brake setup with axial-mounted two-piston calipers.
At the rear is a pro-link swingarm with monoshock dampers that offer 190mm of travel. Mounted to it is a single “wave” disc operated by a single caliper.
It rides on 21 and 18-inch wheels — front and back — like the Yamaha Ténéré 700.
Overall, both off-road machines look like they can take any rough terrain with ease. However, the more aggressive appeal of the Yamaha Ténéré 700 slightly gives it the edge over the newcomer. That said, we’re giving this round to the Yamaha Ténéré 700.
The Yamaha Ténéré 700 comes standard with a solid-looking vertically-oriented instrument cluster that displays relevant riding information. The digital instrument panel complements the bike’s rally-style cockpit with a 16-liter gasoline fuel tank, that per Yamaha, offers a potential riding range of about 350 kilometers.
Meanwhile, the Honda Transalp 750 offers a horizontally-aligned instrument panel. Its crisp and crystal-clear thin-film transistor screen keeps the rider informed about important information at a glance. It flaunts a sporty cockpit with a larger fuel tank with a 16.9-liter capacity.
With both motorcycles neck and neck at this round, we’re calling it a tie.
Powering the Yamaha Ténéré 700 is a 689 cubic capacity (cc) gasoline-fed engine. The liquid-cooled, four-stroke, four-valve engine. It is paired with a six-speed constant mesh transmission and makes 75 horsepower (hp) and 68 Newton-meters of torque.
On the other hand, the Honda Transalp 750 packs a more powerful 755cc mill. The liquid-cooled, four-stroke, eight-valve engine is mated to a six-speed manual transmission that makes 90hp and 74.6Nm of torque.
Thanks to a more powerful setup, the Honda Transalp 750 offers faster travel and better pulling power for conquering higher terrains and more challenging obstacles. On that note, we’re giving this round to the Honda Transalp 750.
Yamaha Ténéré 700 – P669,000
Honda Transalp 750 – P598,000
Both the Yamaha Ténéré 700 and the Honda Transalp 750 prove that they are capable off-roaders with their respective suite of features, leading us to call this duel a tie.
Choosing between both bikes will be a matter of preference should you want a more aggressive looking one or a more powerful one.
