Looking to spice things up in the sporty sedan segment, MG Philippines released the GT sometime this February.
Its arrival meant that Filipino car buyers will have an additional option when shopping for a sedan that’s a cut above the rest.
Interested to find out which of its two variants best suits your budget and motoring needs? Join us as we take a closer look at the two available variants of the Philippine-market MG GT.
The MG GT Alpha comes in as the entry-level variant of the brand’s sporty sedan.
Exterior features found on this trim include its 3D Digital Flame Grille, a pair of LED headlamps, a carbon fiber front spoiler, a set of 16-inch two-tone Tomahawk alloy wheels, power-folding side mirrors, 3D LED race track taillamps, and a ducktail spoiler.
The design of the MG GT Alpha is very minimal, which surprisingly works well with its sporty fastback body design.
Inside, it gets leather seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, a power sunroof, a seven-inch digital instrument cluster, and a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
To keep its occupants cool, the MG GT Alpha is equipped with a manual air- conditioning unit and a rear vent.
Power comes from a naturally aspirated 1.5-liter engine mated to an eight-speed intelligent continuously variable transmission with manual mode. This setup makes 111 horsepower (hp) with 150 Newton meters (Nm) of torque.
Safety-wise, the MG GT Alpha packs features such as an anti-lock braking system, cruise control, electronic stability control, a corner braking control system, a reverse camera, and rear parking sensors.
Sitting at the top of the variant hierarchy is the MG GT Sport. Surprisingly, it wears the same exterior features as the base Alpha variant with its larger 17-inch to-tone Tomahawk alloy wheels as the only difference.
More differences can be found as one steps in the cabin. The MG GT Sport offers electronically-adjustable zero-gravity sports seats wrapped in leather and multi-functional steering wheel features paddle shifters.
Automatic air conditioning as well as an added vent round up the features of the MG GT Sport.
Its powertrain setup is comprised of a turbocharged 1.5-liter powerplant paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. This combo produces more horses (158hp) and more pulling power (250Nm).
In terms of safety, the MG GT Sport offers additional features like forward collision warning, lane departure warning with audio and haptic alert system, as well as an intelligent high beam control.

MG GT Sport – P1.193 million
The MG GT does make for an appealing option for those looking for a sedan that can make heads turn.
For those on the market for an affordable car that looks fast, the MG GT Alpha is the obvious choice. It has very little to no differences when compared to the range-topping Sport.
However, for those who want a car that can walk the talk, the 158hp MG GT Sport would be their best bet.
