Here Are Volvo's Full Range of Plug-in Hybrids in PH
The plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) offerings in the Philippines is already a little more exciting and ‘electrifying’ as Volvo’s range of engine/battery-paired units has already made its presence felt since last year.
Volvo already has, not one, not two, but three PHEVs for PH consumption, beginning with the regal Volvo S90 sedan, the dynamic XC60 compact SUV, and the brand’s flagship XC90 mid-size SUV.
Volvo S90
The S90 is powered by Volvo’s Drive-E powertrains, including gas and diesel variants as well as Volvo’s T8 Twin Engine, a gas plug-in hybrid mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission.
Volvo’s T8 Twin Engine delivers all the benefits of a high performance, low emission internal combustion engine with an electric motor that delivers power on demand with extremely low CO2 emissions and over 40 km of pure electric range.
The S90 PHEV sedan epitomizes Volvo’s leadership in the field of automotive. The SPA platform used in making the S90 has produced the strongest and safest Volvo cars to date because of extensive use of boron steel, as well as numerous safety systems designed to protect people in and out of the car.
Volvo’s City Safety technology, standard on all Volvo models, combines automatic braking functionality and collision avoidance systems to cover a range of potential accident scenarios and help keep occupants safe. Volvo’s City Safetysuite is the only system on the market that detects pedestrians, cyclists, and even animals.
Volvo XC60
The XC60 PHEV crossover boasts a powertrain software that has been optimized to provide faster access to torque and focus additional power to the rear wheels. This optimization allows the Volvo T8 Twin Engine Plug-in Hybrid to produce a total output of 415 hp and 770 Nm of torque.
The XC60’s exterior design features a sporty character with integrated black chrome tail pipes, high-gloss black grille, and wheel arch extensions highlighting the crossover’s aggressive stance.
To imbue the XC60 withenhanced suspension performance, Volvo partnered with Öhlins, a Swedish-based advanced suspension technology brand. An Öhlins front strut bar increases the stiffness of the car’s body, allowing for more precise and responsive control.
Volvo XC90
Receiving a mild refresh for 2020, the Volvo XC90 PHEV is the Swedish luxury automaker’s flagship SUV, equipped with the design, features, technology, utility and safety expected by many of today’s luxury buyers.
The XC90 hybrid delivers 400 hp with over 640 kms of total range, and features a confident, luxurious take on traditional Scandinavian design. The exterior has a strong stance with a subtle, timeless quality and balanced proportions, while the interior is a masterful combination of relaxing design, beautiful materials, and the latest technology.
Volvo’s Intellisafe suite of driver assistance features comes standard, including Collision Avoidance by City Safety, Pilot Assist with Adaptive Cruise Control and Distance Alert, Oncoming Lane Mitigation with Steering Assist, Blind Spot Information System (BLIS), and Cross Traffic Alert with Autobrake.
Volvo’s promise of an electric future has now begun, where the Swedish car brand guarantees that all newly produced Volvo cars have plug-in hybrid technology options. This will continue until Volvo reaches its ambitious goal to be climate neutral across their full value chain in 2040, in line with the goals of the Paris Agreement.
