Acknowledging the growing number of riders in the Philippines, Honda Philippines, Incorporated (HPI) shared some tips on what one should wear to stay safe while riding atop the saddle of a motorcycle.
In doing so, the Japanese motorcycle company hopes to help keep Filipino riders safe by making everyone aware of essential riding gears one should wear before hitting the road.
The first and most important gear riders should invest in is a helmet. Indeed, a helmet will not just keep you safe but will also ensure you are not breaking any laws, such as the Republic Act No. 10054 (more commonly known as the Motorcycle Helmet Act of 2009).
A helmet is crucial in keeping motorcycle owners safe since the head is what we should protect first.
However, it’s not just important to just wear a helmet. It’s also important to get the right one.
A good helmet should have a Philippine Standard seal or an Import Commodity Clearance sticker. The aforementioned regulatory stickers indicate that the helmet has undergone proper safety testing.
Another essential gear riders should have is a pair of riding gloves.
Choose a pair of full-fingered riding gloves that also have hard plastic components like knuckle and palm guards. This type of design not only helps those riding motorcycles get a proper grip on the handles, but it also helps protect one’s hands in case of accidents.
Besides, the right riding gloves make a rider look stylish and cool while protecting one’s hands as well.
Footwear is also an important riding gear.
On that note, investing in the right pair of riding boots must be high on a rider’s must-have list. Ideally, it should be able to protect one’s ankles and part of a rider’s calves. However, dedicated riding boots can be pricey. But hey, you get what you pay for.
The last type of riding item a rider should invest in is a riding jacket and a pair of good riding jeans.
When choosing a riding jacket, it is best to get one that has spine, shoulder, and chest reinforcement for added protection. As for riding jeans, it is ideal to get a pair with knee and hip protection. Remember, the right riding jacket and jeans make for a more comfortable and safer ride.
