Honda Cars Philippines, Inc. (HCPI) has brought to the country the updated Civic Type R.
The local arm of the Japanese automaker noted that the facelifted version has a refreshed sporty exterior design and mechanical updates “to further improve the model’s already exhilarating driving performance.”
The Civic Type R nameplate immediately gained popularity when it was officially introduced to the Philippine market in 2017. Back then, it immediately sold its first 100 units within 48 hours upon the announcement of its availability.
The new front bumper design houses a new lower fog light surrounds and thinner grille beam. The bumpers as well as the side skirts maintained the carbon fiber effect front splitter, side underspoilers, and rear diffuser with a sporty red accent line. It also has a Type R spoiler and its 20-inch Berlina Black alloy wheels.
For its interior, the Honda Civic Type R “builds on the sporty, sleek and sophisticated interior space of the 10th generation Civic’s cabin.” The high center console is complemented by the carbon center inlays and red accents on its dashboard extending towards the side door panels.
The new Honda Civic Type R has Type R bucket seats that wear suede-effect red and black fabric trim, a steering wheel covered in Alcantara leather and a teardrop-style gear knob (found on previous Type R models). Just like before, the exclusive Type R serial number plate is still found below the gear shift lever.
It is equipped with a seven-inch full color Thin Film Transistor (TFT) LCD Display and an updated seven-inch Touch Screen Display Audio System with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capability.
The updated Honda Civic Type R retained the 2.0-liter VTEC Turbo engine paired to a six-speed manual transmission with rev match control system. This pairing produces a maximum of 305.6hp and 400 Nm.
Further, the latest version of the four-door sports car is now endowed with Active Sound Control (ASC) to match its triple exhaust system’s refined note.
Moreover, the HCPI noted that the automaker has placed improvements on its Adaptive Damper System’s control software for faster road condition evaluation. Providing the stopping power are Brembo four-piston calipers paired to a new two-piece floating 350mm front brake discs and new brake pads.
Furthermore, the latest iteration of the Honda Civic Type R comes with Honda Sensing suite of driver assistive functions such as Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS), Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS), Road Departure Mitigation (RDM), and Lane Departure Warning (LDW).
This complements the safety features structures such as the four airbags, Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD), Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA), Hill Start Assist (HSA), and Multi-View Reverse Camera with Guidelines.
Available in three colors such as Championship White, Racing Blue (New Color) and Sonic Gray (New Color), the Honda New Civic Type R has a suggested retail price of P3.21 million. Until September 30, HCPI is offering P100,000-discount for the said model.
