Honda Cars Philippines, Inc. (HCPI) has brought the much-awaited sixth-generation Civic Type R to the country.
The new Honda Civic Type R is dubbed the most powerful model in its 30-year history.
On that note, the latest version of the Honda Civic Type R packs a 2.0-liter 16-valve DOHC VTEC engine mated to a six-speed manual transmission with a Rev Match Control System, which per HCPI, has been improved compared to the outgoing model for more precise and smoother shifting.
On paper, the all-new Honda Civic Type R puts out 315 horsepower with 420Nm of peak torque.
Alongside the thrilling powertrain, the newest Honda Civic Type R comes with four driving modes: Comfort, Sport, +R, and individual mode, which is new and customizable.
Another exciting feature offered by the sixth-generation Civic Type R is the Honda LogR Performance Datalogger.
Per the local arm of the Japanese automotive brand, the Honda LogR Performance Datalogger combines its onboard computer and sensors with a new built-in vehicle app that helps drivers monitor and record a variety of performance parameters in real time when driving on the road, on track and other closed courses, helping to improve driving skills.
Its key features — HCPI said — are the Performance Monitor, Auto Score, and Data Log.
Performance Monitor provides the driver with relevant vehicle information such as 3D Display, Tire Friction Circle, cornering G-forces, the status of oil and coolant temperatures, oil pressure, and more.
On the other hand, Auto Score shows the driver how the car behaves and helps in improving one’s driving skills. HCPI explained that Auto Score measures a driver’s performance by using “key parameters.”
Meanwhile, Data Log analyzes driving data to help understand one’s driving habits. It also scores a driver’s track performance, provides lap time, and Heat Map — should you fancy taking the sixth-generation Honda Civic Type R to the track.
Fans of the souped-up sedan will notice that the looks of the new Honda Civic Type R can be somewhat deceiving. Despite its powerful powertrain and advanced technological features, it looks quite tamed — especially when compared to the previous generation.
Honda seemed to have dropped the Civic Type R’s Gundam-esque style in favor of a simpler, more mature look. Noticeable is the lack of unnecessary aggressive lines and sharp angles and the presence of a more fluid, streamlined design.
At the fore is a sporty honeycomb mesh grille flanked by LED headlamps. More notable exterior appointments can be found at the new Honda Civic Type R’s rear, which includes wider rear doors and a reshaped rear bumper, its iconic three-round exhaust outlets, a new rear diffuser, and a redesigned rear spoiler with aluminum stanchions.
The sixth-generation Honda Civic Type R rides on 19-inch alloy wheels shod in 265/30 high-performance tires.
Per HCPI, the overall design of the sixth-generation Honda Civic Type R was influenced by input from aerodynamic development members of the HRC Sakura Super GT race team, which explains its aerodynamic exterior.
Its cabin boasts a sporty design befitting its capabilities. Designed to support intense driving experiences, the interior of the new Honda Civic Type R packs amenities that evoke spirited driving. These include an aluminum shift knob, a serialized Type R plate on the dashboard, racing-inspired Type R bucket seats, a three-spoke leather-wrapped steering wheel, a 10.2-inch instrument cluster, and a nine-inch infotainment system.
Finally, comfort and convenience features like automatic air-conditioning, a wireless charging pad, a 12-speaker Bose sound system, smart entry with a smart key card, and a one-push start system round up its impressive list of interior appointments.
“Tonight, we welcome 2023 with the launch of the most powerful Civic Type R. It embodies Honda’s DNA, demonstrating the brand’s strong determination for crafting machines that attain the ultimate in speed and the joy of driving,” said HCPI President Masahiko Nakamura.
The Philippine-market 2023 Honda Civic Type R is offered in a single variant and is priced at P3.88 million.
