Since late September, Honda Cars Philippines Inc. (HCPI), the local automobile arm for the Japanese marque, has announced that they will soon be launching another exciting car for their lineup.
The said model, HCPI stated, will be revealed on October 22 at their social media page HCPI official Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/Hondaphil) and at their official YouTube page (https://www.youtube.com/user/hondacarsph).
However, we have heard from the grapevine that the vehicle manufacturer will be bringing in the 2020 Honda City, which is now available in Thailand.
While we have yet to see the full specifications of the upcoming model, let’s check out the details of the Thailand-based Honda City.
In the said country, the Honda City has a 1-liter DOHC three-cylinder, 12 valve i-VTEC engine that has been fitted with a turbocharger that can provide 120 horsepower and 173 Nm torque, dropping other engine variants that was once available in the older generation City. This is matched to a CVT automatic transmission, dropping the manual variant in the City.
The transmission for the subcompact sedan contender for Honda—which rivals the Toyota Vios, Kia Rio, Suzuki Ciaz, among others—can also be controlled via seven-speed paddle shifters.
On the outside it has a redesigned front fascia, which is very evident in the upper lip of the grille and the headlights as well as the tail lamps have been reformed—now sporting sharper lines.
The black interior exudes a certain level of elegance with the gauges illuminated with red lines.
The said version of the Honda City has an eight-inch infotainment system that supports Apple Carplay and is Google Maps-ready.
One of the features that the Philippines market would definitely welcome would be the Honda Connect “that connect cars and work through a smartphone app.”
The latest version of the Honda City in Thailand is offered in four variants, with the top grade being the RS.
Further, we are also hoping that the Honda City would not drop the safety features that are available in the Thailand counterpart such as the Emergency Stop Signal and six airbags (dual front, intelligent front side and curtain airbags that would mitigate sudden impact.
However, as of the moment, all these are still of wishful thinking. So we’ll just try to keep our eyes and ears peeled for any updates of the coming models.
