Back in the 1990s, the hot Honda cars to have locally for the Gen Xers were the ESi variant of the fifth-generation Civic and the SiR of the sixth-gen model. Well, today's Millenials now have something exciting to look forward to from Honda Cars Philippines just like their Titos did two decades ago and that's the arrival--FINALLY!--of the much-awaited Honda Civic Type R on our shores.
Recently rumored to arrive in the Philippines from various sources by different media outlets, Carmudi Philippines has confirmed the Civic Type R's arrival from a contact in one of Honda's dealerships in Metro Manila.
Set to make its local debut at the upcoming Manila International Auto Show, the all-new Honda Civic Type R, which is based on the Honda Civic Type R launched locally last year, will be limited to just 100 units with an estimated price of P2.7 million and delivery of the first units to customers starting in December 2017. What's unclear though is if we'll be getting the European-market model or the one that's destined for the United States. We're betting on the latter though because they will supposedly get their allotment around the same time as ours.
Powering the Honda Civic Type R is a turbocharged, 2.0-liter i-VTEC engine that's exclusive to the car and puts out 306 hp and 400 Nm of torque through a short-throw, six-speed manual transmission with "rev matching capability." It's also equipped with an Adaptive Damper System that enhances the car's suspension and a Limited Slip Differential which lets it tackle tight corners to give the driver more confidence behind the wheel.
Outside, the Civic Type R has a functional, Track-Tested Aero Kit that's designed to keep the Civic Type R planted to the ground, a Center-Exit Triple-Exhaust Tip System which gives the vehicle an aggressive exhaust note, and 20-Inch Black Alloy Wheels with track-tested red brake calipers.
