The 2021 Honda HR-V e:HEV is the brand’s latest offering in the subcompact crossover category.

According to Honda, the new HR-V will serve up a unique and responsive driving experience, with exceptional efficiency delivered by the brand’s powerful and efficient two-motor e:HEV.

The e:HEV powertrain features two compact, powerful electric motors that work alongside an Atkinson-cycle 1.5-liter DOHC i-VTEC gasoline engine, a lithium-ion battery, and an innovative fixed-gear transmission coupled to a power control unit.

The HR-V e:HEV will boast a total power output of 130hp and 253Nm of torque.

Honda said that this technology benefits from advancements made over 20 years of hybrid development in Honda road cars and in Formula 1.

Using Honda’s engineering expertise from its motorsport team, Honda’s race-winning Formula 1 Hybrid Power Unit program has inspired the technology in the e:HEV hybrid system. As a result, the new Honda HR-V e:HEV offers exceptional efficiency and power output in a wide range of driving conditions.

An intelligent electronic control unit (ECU) automatically and constantly cycles among Electric Drive, Hybrid Drive, or Engine Drive depending on which is the most fuel-efficient mode at that specific driving condition.

In addition, the HR-V e:HEV offers a Sport and an Eco mode. The former enables an even sharper throttle response while the latter adjusts the air-conditioning system and throttle response to improve fuel efficiency.

Normal is also available, providing owners with the ideal balance of its driving features.

In terms of styling, the hybrid HR-V will offer a contemporary coupe-like body. Honda says that it embodies the brand’s new simple, clean, modern design philosophy and successfully extends Honda’s reputation for quality, functionality, and practicality.

The range-topping variant gets a body-colored grille with a tri-color motif. The radiator grille is flanked by LED lights with DRLs and auto headlight adjuster as well as LED front fog lamps.

The side profile is highlighted by a two-tone roof accentuated by a modern-looking roof rail as well as a two-tone side mirror. The HR-V e: HEV will ride on 18-inch black cut wheels.

At the back-end is a rear spoiler and taillights that mimic the layout at the front.

Inside, owners can expect a heated leather steering wheel, heated seats wrapped in light gray synthetic leather and fabric, and dual-zone air-conditioning.

The new HR-V e:HEV is equipped with a nine-inch touchscreen infotainment system with navigation, wireless Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto.
