Honda — through Wuyang-Honda — just launched its latest electric scoot in China, the U-Go. The lightweight e-scoot is designed and engineered for city driving and features the Japanese automaker’s latest innovations in electric scooter mobility.
In terms of looks, the U-Go gives off the same vibes as the Honda e. Honda says that the U-Go was built around the brand’s “Simple and Clean” concept which uses an integrated design language.
At its front is a minimal and functional LED headlight that boasts 40,000cd (candelas) that shines brighter and wider for increased road visibility. Above the headlight are two similarly minimal turn signals. And for those who just hate having turn signals poking at the rear, its sporty tail features suspended taillights with integrated turn signals.
Mileage, speed, and battery level are displayed on a small yet crisp LCD screen.
Propulsion will come from an electric motor which will be made available in two versions. One is a 1.2kW continuous-rated hub motor with a peak rating of 1.8kW while the other comes with a rating of 0.8kW. These motors have a top speed of 53kph and 43kph respectively.
The electric motor will be powered by a removable and rechargeable lithium-ion battery with IP67 level protection. The battery is seated in a sturdy aluminum alloy battery box which protects the battery against impact.
According to Honda, the battery provides an estimated range of 65km and can be extended to 130km with the use of an additional battery.
Safety-wise, Honda outfitted the U-Go e-scoot with two rear shock absorbers, a motorcycle-grade thickened high-strength steel frame, and an improved braking system.
The Honda U-Go will ride on 12-inch front and 10-inch rear alloy wheels.
Locally, we’ve yet to see an electric scooter from Honda. And honestly, we’re excited to find out if Honda will consider releasing the U-Go in the Philippines.
Their current lineup consists of staples like the Click 125i, the BeAT, and big boy scoots like the PCX and the ADV.
