The long wait is finally over as Honda Philippines Inc. (HPI) has officially introduced the ADV160.
The motorcycle company’s highly-anticipated small-displacement adventure motorcycle now packs a more powerful engine and a few new features that make it a more appealing option for both the daily commuter and the weekend warrior.
At the heart of the Honda ADV160 is the new-generation 157 cubic capacity (cc), four-valve, liquid-cooled, Enhanced Smart Power Plus (eSP+), Programmed Fuel Injection (PGM-FI) engine. Per HPI, the new engine gives the Honda ADV160 10 percent more horsepower and seven percent more torque than its predecessor — the ADV150.
The local arm of Honda’s motorcycle division also noted that the ADV160 clocks in at 45 kilometers per liter (kpl), based on the World Motorcycle Test Cycle (WMTC) method.
Stopping power comes from a disc brake at the front and a drum brake at the rear. The former sports a new wavy design with Anti-lock Braking System (ABS). HPI explained that the wavy disc brakes equipped on the Honda ADV160 provide better braking while achieving a lower overall weight compared to a round one with the same outer diameter. HPI added that it also scrapes out dirt and rainwater on the pad.
To help the rider maintain balance and achieve better footing, the Honda ADV160 is designed with a lowered seat height. For comparison’s sake, the Honda ADV150 has a 795-millimeter (mm) seat height while the Honda ADV160 has a 780-mm seat height. On the other hand, Honda maintained the adventure scooter’s high ground clearance.
The ADV160 is also equipped with the Honda Selectable Torque Control (HSTC). A feature typically found on Honda big bikes, HSTC helps balance the work of the wheel rotation to prevent slipping of the rear tires when riding on slippery roads — pretty much like traction control.
Other notable features include a new full digital meter panel, twin sub-tank rear suspensions, a new “higher” adjustable windscreen, an all-LED lighting setup, a USB charger, and its chunky all-terrain tires.
The Honda ADV160, which is made in Indonesia, is offered in a single variant and is priced at P164,900.
