Following its teaser last week, Honda has unveiled the newest version of the Civic Type R.
Based on the 11th-generation Civic Hatchback, the 2023 Honda Civic Type R has a low and wide design and “has been engineered from the ground up to deliver thrilling performance with an addictive driving experience” on and off the track.
The Japanese automaker’s arm in the United States said that the latest offering is the fastest Honda-branded vehicle ever offered there and is the most powerful Type R in the nameplate’s history.
"Even in this ‘year of the Honda SUV,’ it's great to be part of a brand that remains focused on the thrilling performance and joy of driving delivered by the all-new Civic Type R," American Honda Assistant Vice President for Sales Mike Kistemaker was quoted as saying.
"Type R is about more than speed, power and handling. It's how a great car makes you feel that really matters and that's what the all-new Civic Type R is all about," he added.
The all-new model is equipped with a 2.0-liter engine matched to a six-speed manual transmission and rev-matching system.
The newest Honda Civic Type R wears muscular fenders, updated front and rear bumpers, honeycomb mesh grille, new side sills, redesigned spoiler, a new rear diffuser, and three round exhaust outlets.
The 2023 Honda Civic Type R will be offered in five body colors: Historic Championship White (a Type R-exclusive finish), Rallye Red, Boost Blue, Crystal Black Pearl and Sonic Grey Pearl (new color option).
Inside, the 2023 Honda Civic Type R is tailored with red seats, carpet and trim, and serialized Type R plate now placed on the dashboard.
Further, the newly-revealed model features a new +R driving mode exclusive meter design that dishes out the necessary information instantly, with a graphic engine rpm display, rev indicator lights, and gear position indicator placed at the top. It also has a data logger (Honda LogR) that provides real-time information on the mechanical movements of the vehicle and vehicle behavior resulting from the driver's input.
Moreover, the vehicle is scheduled to go on sale in Japan by September 2022.
