The United States arm of Honda recently announced that it will be unboxing a CR-V equipped with a hybrid powertrain that can produce 800 horsepower (hp) on February 28, 2023.
The souped-up compact sport utility vehicle was said to have been built by engineers from Honda Performance Development and Auto Development Center, and designers from the North America Auto Design Division of American Honda.
Based on photos released by the carmaker, the Honda CR-V Hybrid Racer project vehicle appears to be fitted with a carbon fiber aerodynamic kit. At the fore is a carbon fiber bumper with what seems to have large air intakes and a front splitter. And while we didn’t get to see the automobile’s hood, it looks like it also has exhaust ports fashioned from carbon fiber materials.
To its side are carbon fiber front wheel fenders with exhaust vents and aerodynamically-designed side skirts. The roof also wears what we assume are further aerodynamic appointments, made of course from carbon fiber.
Wrapping up its bespoke bodywork are wide rear wheel fenders, a big diffuser, and a sweeping wing — all made out of carbon fiber.
What caught our attention was that the body appears to open up like a clamshell, most likely to allow the race team to quickly work on the vehicle while on the track.
Inside, the race-ready Honda CR-V looks like it’s fitted with reinforcements, a carbon fiber race steering wheel, and several dedicated buttons for its soon-to-be-revealed functions.
More details about the Honda CR-V Hybrid Racer project vehicle are expected to be revealed by the end of the month.
